Wag Amazon's New Dog Food

*This page contains affiliate links.  Please know that I will receive a commission for products I recommend.  I will never recommend a product that I don't believe in.Now you can order an affordable high protein, no grain added dog food that gets delivered quickly and you can set up a subscription order for your Sheepadoodle pup on Amazon.  Does it sound too good to be true?  There isn't much info out there yet, but Wag is looking really great and we just may have to alter our dog food recommendation list to include it.
Amazon recently released their first line of dog food.  It is a dry kibble that comes in four flavors: Salmon and lentil, beef and lentil, turkey and lentil and lamb and lentil and it's available in two sizes the 15 lbs bag or 30 lbs.  They offer one flavor of puppy food and that is chicken and lentil.
  • Here are a few of the things we LOVE about Wag:
Protein is the very first ingredient listed on both the puppy and adult Wag foods and they are made up of 35% protein.  We strongly recommend buying a dog food that has the protein listed as the first ingredient, this is a great sign.  There is a great list of vegetables and legumes that are found next on the list.  These will provide your pup with the necessary carbs and energy to stay healthy and fill them up while giving them some vitamins.  Next the fat value is 15% which is also a great thing for your Sheepadoodle.  If you read the label, the first 5 ingredients are proteins and vegetables, which is a great list and will help with digestion and immunity.  And if you'll notice the kibble size is a bit on the larger side which makes it perfect for a larger breed like a Sheepadoodle.
  • Here are a few things we don't like about Wag and think you should consider before making a purchase:
Natural flavor is about ingredient #12 and this is a bit disconcerting.  Natural flavor is a mysterious label that could mean lots of ingredients, not always healthy and there is really no way of knowing.  We do know that they have to meet certain standards, so you can rely on that depending on how trusting you want to be.  The food is made in the USA but it does state that ingredients are imported which sounds a bit mysterious because it doesn't give more information like from where they are imported and what.  It does say that it meets the standards set by the AAFCO.  And finally you must have a Prime membership to order this food, but since almost all households have a membership or access to one this shouldn't be an obstacle for too many pup owners.

Overall we say it wags our pups' tails so go ahead and give it a try.  Remember mix in your old pup's food slowly over 10 days whenever you phase into a new brand.  Wag even has a handy chart on the back of the bag to remind you how to do it.  Let us know what you think!
